Work Today -
I'm making some steel thing. It's big and there is four of them. I'm taking off over 30 pounds of material. It takes like an hour to cut it all off. I put a dovetail on it so I can hold it in the 5TH AXIS vice.
I dropped one on my finger and it crushed it. Ouch. There is a bruise underneath my nail now. My coworkers asked me how this job is going and I just flip them off (to show them the injury) and tell them not good because my finger got crushed.
I'm not sure what this part is, but I like making big parts and I like hogging away material. I'm using some Kennametal 2 inch 5 flute face mill for it and it is just shredding the steel away. It's not a hard steel, it is only A36. I like watching the chips fly off. They make a nice noise as they hit the walls of the machine.
My Airpods Max are coming in clutch because hogging like this is very loud and annoying. The active noise cancellation is working great! Wihtout it, it sounds like a semi truck is blasting its horn in the shop. The video doesn't pick it up quite the same as your ears would. (Don't forget how it shakes the whole machine and you can feel in the floor)
!!! These videos might be SUPER LOUD !!! #
My injury #
Yeah I was lowering the first one into the vice to cut the dovetail and it fell super fast. The raw stock weighs like 60 pounds. I thought my finger was clear of the part but it wasn't!! I learned my lesson. You can see my glove stuck under the stock.
It doesn't look like it would hurt very much based on the finger picture, but that dark spot in the middle of my nail hurts. If there is any pressure on my finger basically I jump around and go, "AWOWOWOWOW OW OW O WOW OW" like Tom the cat.
